Mercy Ministries of Laredo
|
|
Photo by Goyo López Over the last 109 years, the Sisters of Mercy have served the community of Laredo with compassion, dedication and professionalism. Beginning in the late 19th century on Rosario St. and continuing through the new millennium, they have stood by and cared for us in our times of need. While the sale of Mercy Health Center closes the door to a storied tradition, it also opens a new chapter for the Sisters of Mercy legacy. The religious order continues to maintain a very strong and resolute relationship with the many residents of this border region through the newly formed non profit group, Mercy Ministries of Laredo. Mercy Ministries of Laredo continues to provide outreach community services including primary health services in south Laredo, a domestic abuse refuge in Casa Misericordia and a Food program in Mercy’s La Casita. The incorporators for this new entity include Sister Rosa Maria Vera, RSM, Sister Rosemary Tresp, RSM, Dr. Ray Keck and Danny Guevara. Guevara also serves as the chief executive officer for the newly formed Mercy Ministries of Laredo. An additional group of local people will serve on the board of directors. Mercy Ministries of Laredo will more than likely be headquartered at the Zacatecas office building in south Laredo near Cigarroa High School. |
